Animal Protection WHY: I picked this article, because I like animals. I was interested to find out how pyschology is used to help animals. As I learn more about psychology, the more I think I want to take it in college. It's certainly a very interesting field. SUMMARY: The author, Jacqueline Ogden, took an interest in psychology and expanded that interest to the field of animal behavior. The author worked at Zoo Atlanta for four years. She had many interesting case studies, including the case study of the introduction of a male gorilla to a naturalistic exhibit. Eventually, the author got an offer to conduct her dissertation research at the San Diego Zoo. During her stay at the San Diego Zoo, the author's research initially was focused on evaluating the impact that a new gorilla exhibit had on gorillas and zoo visitors. The author went to an integrated high school, many years before the Brown v. the Board of Education case. Whie in high school, Belvin's guidance counselor helped him realize that psychology was a career path that he should explore. After graduating from Denver University, the author was invited to become the first director of the computer center at Teachers College. Later on, the author enrolled at Columbia Business School and after graduating, was invited to become the Associate Dean for Administration. He spent two years as Associate Dean, before finally settling into his final position as Senior Vice President for all testing programs at Education Testing Service. While he was Senior Vice President, Belvin joined the Board of Trusteess of the Turrell Fund. He also ended up helping the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation.
